Norwegian Vehicle History Museum

The Norwegian Museum of Vehicle History opened in June 2019 in a completely new building at the Norwegian Road Museum. The museum is a consolidation with the private Norwegian Vehicle History Museum which was located in the center of Lillehammer from 1983 to 2015.

The museum shows a large exhibition of cars, motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles from the beginning of the 20th century until the 1990s. The main emphasis is on ordinary utility vehicles and gives a picture of what has rolled on Norwegian roads from the car's childhood to the present day. The exhibition also shows several unique Norwegian-produced vehicles from the many attempts to start car and motorcycle production in Norway. Here you will find Mustad's huge "Giant" from 1917 with six wheels, here you can admire over 60 bikes, see more great mopeds and motorcycles and experience the history of the electric car Think.

Part of the exhibition will be replaced regularly and various themes will be shown. Today, exhibitions consist of vehicles owned by the Norwegian Road Museum as well as borrowed objects from other museums and from private individuals.

The museum is a natural gathering place for various car and motor clubs who want to have a meeting or a destination for a drive. There is a separate VIP car park in front of the museum which is reserved for cars and motorcycle clubs, this is made available by appointment. The museum is also the main arena for the event National Motor Day in June every year.
