Mercedes Zetros extreme off road RV

The vehicle you can see here is the Mercedes Zetros an off-road truck for extreme conditions. The video you can see here is from the Mercedes test grounds. You may be wondering why I am showing this on an RV channel, the reason is because this is the base vehicle and afterwards we can have a look at what it could look like after an RV conversion. The Zetros is manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, Germany. The truck is designed to be compatible with the Hercules C-130 transport and also fits into a standard German railway carriage.
The vehicle looks as though it has been around for ages, but it hasn’t. It was introduced for the first time in 2008 with a 7.2 litre diesel engine offering 326 hp, 240kW followed by a 12 litre engine in 2016 which has 428 hp (315 kW.

You might get 90kmph out of it if going down hill on a smooth surface with the wind behind you.
Clearly it is designed above all for military use and the biggest operator will be the Algerian army who plans to use it as mobile artillery, curiously enough putting 1960s era Soviet weapons on it. Those vehicles are being built in Algeria by the Société Algérienne de Production de Poids Lourds Mercedes-Benz a joint venture with the German manufacturer and the Algerian and Emirates governments Other than that it is used by the military in various countries including Germany, Turkey, Mexico, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Chile and others. In Costa Rica they are used for fire fighting and emergency rescue whilst in Jordan they are applied to humanitarian relief and in Australia as a fertiliser spreader. Therefore if you are thinking of doing some fertiliser spreading and artillery firing with your RV when not using it for camping or borrowing it out for humanitarian relief or fire fighting, then this could be for you.
So that is the base vehicle and the habitation unit is made by Bliss of the Netherlands.
The exterior of the Bliss Mobil unit is characterized by its solid box-like shape with twist-lock corner castings. One can see that the exterior of the Bliss Mobil unit is very robust and it also features some smart solutions such as solar powered ventilation which might come in handy in the desert. Bliss say that all exterior materials and features are thoroughly tested to ensure the resistance of the unit to virtually all weather and climate conditions and lets face it, you would not want to break down in the middle of the desert as I think your breakdown recovery might not include that area but before doing this I read my own policy and it said nothing about not breaking down in the middle of the Sahara. Independent travelling implies being able to run all vital electrical systems in any given situation, so therefore one is going to need as many solar panels on the roof as possible to power what is inside.

As can be seen in the video, inside the 20 foot unit all the amenities of a home are provided. The interior design is luxurious yet functional and durable, with contemporary yacht design influences. By using solid bamboo panels, Corian and yacht-quality textiles the interior breathes quality and luxury.
However as far as this video is concerned, I think I would rather look at what is probably the most important feature on board and that is the water supply. One can never count on the availability of an adequate water supply, either in quantity or in quality. Shortage of water, or poor water quality will limit your comfort and can even be life-threatening. The water plate is specially designed to ensure all filter and pumps are in one compact space making it easily accessible for repairs, replacement and maintenance. Sufficient energy is a prerequisite for clean hot and cold water. It’s necessary to fill, filter, store, heat, pump and dump your water.
