Wiring Up : A White Office Shirt | URSA Workshop Shorts

Sometimes just a simple Starchy Office Shirt can be the worst nightmare for a sound person.

You can get horrendous scratchy sounds from mics placed too close to an area where the fabric rubs against itself or against the body. Especially if the wearer happens to have a hairy chest.

There is no single solution for this shirt, it depends on how the shirt is worn, how tight is is fitted, the fabric itself, the artists movements... so many factors are in play!

In this video Simon from URSA demonstrates some different mic positions on this shirt with varying degrees of success. Using a Sanken COS11 Microphone, an LMC Vamp Clip, White URSA Tape and finally a White COS 11 URSA MiniMount.

An alternative rig involves exposing the mic on the outside of the costume just under a button, stay tuned for another video featuring this rig!

We hope this series of short videos from our workshops are useful. Please do let us know what you think in the comments.
