Veteran Headstones Dirty in West Virginia

Veteran headstones in West Virginia are dirty and in dire need of cleaning. Trae Zipperer randomly selected St. Peters Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, WV to highlight the poor condition of veteran headstones and grave markers within the State of West Virginia. Located just east of the Harpers Ferry National Historic Park entrance on the north side of Highway 340, St. Peters Cemetery rises above the roadway with rows of historic headstones. No different than all the other private, church, and municipal cemeteries scattered across the United States, the government-furnished veteran headstones and grave markers within these hallowed grounds are covered in filth, thick black algae, and too many years of neglect.

If West Virginia is your home state, and you're proud to be an American, I encourage you to get out into your local cemeteries to see for yourself the despicable condition of our military heroes' grave sites. Somebody needs to clean them, so I hope it will be you who leads the effort in your local community to raise the alarm, rally the troops, and honor these men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedoms we too often take for granted. Within St. Peters Cemetery in Harpers Ferry is the grave of a United States Marine Killed In Action while storming John Brown's Fort to retake the United States Armory in 1858.

Visit our website at ByMemorialDay.com to learn how to properly clean these marble, granite, and bronze memorials. Always seek permission first. And, follow the veteran headstone cleaning protocol issued by the National Cemetery Administration.
