Vermeer's Women
In the 36 surviving works by Vermeer, women appear about 40 times, while men make only 14 appearances, mostly in subordinate roles. Why is that? And what are Vermeer’s women telling us about his world? Or ours? In this video I am trying to find out the role of women in Vermeer's art and reflect on the relationship between realism and artistry.
