Liberation Economy: Envisioning a new economy where all people of color belong
Jeremie Greer, co-founder of Liberation in a Generation, kicked off a series of live SolveIt talks at Interise2020 on March 9, 2020. Attendees from 30+ states attended the conference to close the wealth gap and end systemic inequality.
Over the course of his life and career Jeremie Greer has been dedicated to the advancement of racial and economic justice. Growing up in the historically Black Rondo Neighborhood, in St. Paul MN, he has always been attuned to the intersection between race and economics. He has worked to advance economic and racial justice for people of color as a community organizer, researcher, and policy wonk. He has a BA in Social Work from the University of St. Thomas, a MPP from George Mason University, and is currently working on an Executive Education Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from the Harvard University Kennedy School.
In his SolveIt talk, Jeremie reviews how individuals in elite institutions use racism to create an Oppression Economy, in which people of color cannot thrive because the rules are fixed to drive the wealth towards the elite and away from people of color.
The solution: By building political power to take back the government so that it works on behalf of the people and not on behalf of elite institutions — build a liberation economy that works for the people.
