Gibraltar with a tour guide

Kindly subscribe if you like my travel videos. Once occupied by the Moors and named Gibr al Tariq after the Moorish leader Tariq, its name has changed to what it is now, Gibraltar. It has been a disputed territory between Spain and Great Britain, but now completely British, on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. It has an area of 6.8 square kilometres (2.6 sq mi) and a northern border with Andalusia, Spain. TheRock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. At its foot is the densely populated city area, with a main street full of duty free shops, and home to almost 30,000 Gibraltarians.
Famous for its monkeys who live near the top of the rock, Gibraltar Barbary macaques are descended from North African populations. Don't feed them as that is against the law. There is a myth that as long as there are these monkeys on the rock, Gibraltar will remain British and not Spanish. When the population went down to just a mere 7, Winston Churchill, then Prime Minister, ordered the import of these monkeys from North Africa to replenish the population. Yes, even Prime Ministers are prone to superstition!
Gibraltar governs its own affairs, though some powers, such as defence and foreign relations, remain the responsibility of the Government in the UK. The British Pound is the currency there and you need a visa as you would to enter Britain, depending from where you are. The airport is interesting in that a road runs through the runway and traffic has to be suspended when a plane is about to land. The airport is considered one of the hardest on which to land.
