In today's video we take a look at a set of 5 battles in Season 6 of the Pokemon GO Battle League (GBL) in the Open Ultra League.
In today's video we are going over a set of battles in which I went 5-0 to reach Rank 22 and achieve Veteran status in Season 6. Veteran requires reaching an ELO of 2500 and is the 22nd rank out of a possible 24 for the new ranking system introduced for Season 6.
The team I am using is once again the double Ice strategy, this time featuring the Articuno lead which is my preferred variant. As I have said in past videos, Articuno has some very favorable leads and as long as you can avoid Registeel or Melmetal in the lead just about everything else is playable, although certain pokemon such as Empoleon, Lapras and Rock Slide Armored Mewtwo still cause it problems. From the lead spot, it really comes down to alignment in the back, energy and shield management and at times, Lapras or Giratina covering a 1 vs 2 comeback.
Overall I find this to be an extremely strong team which when used properly is very difficult to defeat. It is a super bulky team which can result in a lot of time-outs and the extra time can buy you some time to come up with a plan to win, use it wisely!
In this video we use a team consisting of: Articuno (Ice Shard, Icy Wind, Ancient Power), Giratina Altered Forme (Shadow Claw, Dragon Claw, Shadow Sneak) & Lapras (Ice Shard*, Surf, Ice Beam*).

* denotes Legacy move (may require Elite TM).

FAQ:

The reason I run Shadow Claw on Giratina is because it is the only counter to the Steel types and requires Shadow Claw to have a better match-up against Registeel, Melmetal & Escavalier. Dragon Breath will not work with the double Ice line.
Melmetal & Registeel leads are hard-losses, they will often result in a loss. This should not deter you from running the line. Exchanging a likely loss for playable match-ups against any other lead should outnumber the times you battles those 2 negative ones. If you continue to see these leads in great numbers, consider running Giratina lead with Double Ice in the back.
There aren't really any replacements for these Pokemon. The team will begin to work differently but if I had to choose some, I would say Lapras maybe can be replaced by Suicune.

Giratina could be replaced by Mew or Swampert.

Escavalier, Swampert, Cresselia are fine options to consider replacing one of the Ice types and running a more traditional A,B,C line.
