Sudan: UN Says Over 1,000 Killed by Drone Strikes

The United Nations reports that drone strikes have killed over 1,000 civilians in Sudan during the first five months of 2026. This escalation highlights the devastating impact of aerial warfare on non-combatants.

This grim development marks a significant increase in casualties attributed to aerial attacks, as drone use continues to expand. The U.N. has previously documented drones as the leading cause of civilian deaths, with strikes carried out by both Sudan’s military and its paramilitary enemy, the Rapid Support Forces. Between January and April alone, 880 deaths were specifically recorded from these strikes. The expanded use of this technology in the ongoing conflict is intensifying a humanitarian crisis that has already claimed at least 59,000 lives over the past three years.
