With their conveyor backed up, and bottlenecks straining throughput, Peter Millar’s situation needed urgent change. Due to business growth beyond expectations, their warehouse was over-capacity and it was about to get worse once peak season hit. That was August. By January, they had alleviated 10% from their conveyor, increased turn on orders, and created put walls movable anywhere in the DC. How did they do all of this in less than 90 days? Their choices were Traditional Pick-to-Light/Put-to-Light sorting area, which would be established with a series of physical lights, buttons, and displays permanently installed on their currently available rack. Five of more individual put walls (pods) would be required to handle the volume. New order batching software would need to be developed within the current WMS. The cons?
