Worship Service: Matthew 27:32-66 (The Village Chapel - 4/2/2023)
The Power of the Cross of Christ
John Stott has said, “When we look at the cross, we see the justice, love, wisdom and power of God. It is not easy to decide which is the most luminously revealed.” How is it possible that the death of Christ on the cross reflects all of that?
What difference does the death of Jesus 2000 years ago really make? Why did Jesus really die on the cross? What was accomplished through the cross of Christ? And what difference does it make for us so many years later?
Join Pastor Jim as he leads us through a study of the crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus of Nazareth as recorded in Matthew’s Gospel. (30:47)
Our Sunday morning worship services are comprised of verse-by-verse Bible teaching, Christ-centered worship and a time of congregational prayer. Gather with us in-person at 9 or 11 am or online at 10 am on Sunday morning, or watch anytime, at thevillagechapel.com.

(6:21) Call to Worship: At the Cross
Most merciful God,
thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus.
We remember this day His redeeming death,
that we might stand forgiven at the cross.
Thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus,
to whom we belong, in life and in death.
He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows.
Most holy God,
thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus,
who became sin for us and suffered the punishment due to us,
that we might stand forgiven at the cross.
In the name of our Lord Jesus, amen.
(1:16:41) Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against You this day, in thought, word, and deed;
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved You with our whole hearts;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us,
that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your Name.
Grant to Your people pardon and peace,
that in Your great mercy, we may be forgiven all our sins,
and serve You with a quiet and contrite heart.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
