Malaysia may see up to 50,000 job losses from Trump's tariffs shock: MICCI

Trump’s tariff shock could cost Malaysia up to 50,000 jobs, hitting Penang, Johor and the Klang Valley hardest.

The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) warned that key sectors like electronics, gloves and automotive parts could take a major hit, especially among SMEs.

Wage growth may also stall as export volumes drop.

MICCI says Malaysia can’t afford to stay quiet while others push for relief. It’s urging the government to set up a Tariff Mitigation Council and take steps to protect trade and jobs.

Among the chamber’s proposals are a cushioning scheme, accelerated trade talks, and support for exporters to stay competitive.

Businesses are also being urged to review their supply chains and seek new markets.
