Located in northern Utah near Logan, the Hardware Wildlife Management Area is a premier destination for elk viewing. Managed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, the WMA serves as a winter sanctuary for hundreds of elk. As snow covers the higher terrain, the elk migrate down to the WMA, where supplemental feeding programs ensure their survival during the harsh winter months.

Why Visit Hardware WMA?

•Guided Sleigh Rides: From late December through February, visitors can take guided sleigh rides through the reserve. This up-close experience offers incredible views of elk herds in their winter habitat. It costs $10

•Education Center: The Hardware WMA also features an education center where visitors can learn about elk behavior, migration patterns, and conservation efforts.

•Photography Opportunities

Tips for Visiting:

• Check weather conditions and operating hours before your visit.
• Dress warmly and wear waterproof boots and gloves as the area can be snowy and cold.
• Bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens for the best views.

Whether you’re visiting Hardware WMA or exploring Summit County, it’s important to respect the elk and their habitat. Keep a safe distance, avoid loud noises, and never attempt to feed the animals. Conservation programs, like those at Hardware WMA, rely on responsible tourism to continue protecting these beautiful creatures!
