The Day a Future U.S. President Was Pulled From the Pacific (1944)

On September 2, 1944, a U.S. Navy submarine — the USS Finback (SS-230) — rescued a young pilot who had bailed out of his flaming Grumman TBM Avenger over the Pacific.

That pilot was George H. W. Bush — who would later become the 41st President of the United States.

This short uses archival WWII footage for educational and historical commentary.
