Best Material for a Casting Platform
Can you use King Starboard for a boat casting platform? In this video we answer this common question and go over some important considerations to make when choosing the ideal material for your boats casting deck or platform. For example, we are often asked questions like “how thick does the board need to be? or “Will ½” thick material hold 200+ pounds?”. In this video we discuss a few key factors to consider when choosing the material to add or replace a casting platform on your boat.
As discussed in the video, the starboard thickness needed for the casting platform comes down to how the platform is supported. The team discusses the different style casting platforms as well as the recommended thickness based on your platform style. Many casting platforms have support around the frame with a support bar going across the middle of the deck. Usually in this case, ½” thick starboard would hold up well as the middle of the board would be supported. In other cases, the platforms have tabs around the frame to add support to the platform deck – this style platform would need thicker material to avoid the flexing of the starboard. It is also suggested that Coosa Board is a great option too.
