2019 Citroen C5 Aircross – Off-road testing

The Grip Control system allows the vehicle to adapt the traction of the front wheels according to the terrain encountered. It is possible to let the Grip Control automatically act automatically via the Standard mode or to select one of the five modes (normal, snow, mud, sand, ESP OFF).
STANDARD mode: For normal road conditions with a low slip rate, it allows the system to automatically adapt to the road conditions.
SAND mode: It allows simultaneous slipping of the two front wheels and minimizes the risk of silting. Functional up to 70mph and then automatically switches to standard mode.
MUD mode: It transfers maximum torque on the most adhering wheel, and gives to the less adherent wheel maximum slip. Functional up to 30mph and then automatically switches to standard mode.
SNOW mode: It instantly adapts the slip of each of the driving wheels to the adhesion conditions encountered. Functional up to 50 mph and then automatically switches to standard mode.
ESP OFF mode: Disables the ESP (active up to 30 mph).

Hill Descent Assist allows you to maintain the speed of the vehicle at a reduced speed (up to 1mph), even on steep slopes. In conjunction with the ESP, this technology reduces the risk of slipping when driving downhill. It assists the driver in maintaining a constant speed, depending on the gear engaged (neutral gear included), while gradually releasing the brakes. It operates even at very low speed and in neutral, when no gear is engaged. It is also suitable for gravel, mud or sandy terrain.
