Notorious killer Jaime Osuna pleads not guilty to murder in cellmate's grisly slaying

HANFORD, Calif. (KGET) -- Notorious Kern County killer Jaime Osuna pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and other counts filed against him in the grisly slaying of his cellmate.

Prosecutors confirmed that Osuna's cellmate, Luis Romero, was decapitated and suffered other dismemberment. His body was found March 9 in the cell he shared with Osuna at Corcoran State Prison.

Osuna, 31, faces the death penalty in connection with the killing, described in documents as "especially heinous, atrocious, cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity."

Romero, 44, had been convicted of second-degree murder in Los Angeles in 1993.

Osuna is already serving a sentence of life without parole for the murder of Yvette Pena, a woman he called an acquaintance, in 2011. Pena's murder was also committed with torture, according to investigators.
