Fish Creek Campground in Glacier National Park near West Glacier Montana offers primitive tent and small RV camping a short walk from the shores of Lake McDonald. This out of the way campground offers a more personal feel than the larger nearby Apgar Campground. With paved roads and dirt/ gravel parking pads the campsites are nearly all pull thru in style. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. As with all the other campgrounds in Glacier National Park Fishing Creek Campground only has a limited number of bear boxes. The campground is frequented by bears; be aware of how you handle and store food and scented items.
Water spigots and restrooms with flush toilets, sinks, and dish cleaning stations are located throughout the various loops. 18 sites can accommodate up to a 35 foot RV or truck and trailer combination. A dump station is located next to the entrance/ exit road.
Separated into 4 loops (A, B, C, D) the campground is reasonably easy to navigate with wider roads and trimmed back trees. The loops are very similar in ambiance and style with the only big difference being distance from the lake (B is furthest, C is closest).
A number of hiking trails depart from this area. Also the Inside North Fork dirt road begins from here and offers mountain bikers a chance to get off the pavement in the park.
Reservations are available at this campground and are encouraged during peak season.
Lake McDonald is a very scenic lake with excellent paddling for kayakers and canoes. Bring the swimming gear and take a dip on warm days in its cool waters. Motorboats and private craft are allowed on Lake McDonald also.
