Michael Flynn receives 2015 Computer Pioneer Award

The IEEE Computer Society presented its 2015 Computer Pioneer Award to Michael Flynn for more than 50 years of leadership, which includes the creation of TCCA and SIGARCH, basic contributions to computer arithmetic, microarchitecture and multiprocessing, and quantitative analysis of microarchitectures. The Computer Pioneer Award honors individuals whose contributions to the development of the computer field occur at least 15 years earlier.
In the early 1970s Prof. Flynn founded both of the specialist organizations on Computer Architecture: the IEEE-CS Technical Committee on Computer Architecture and the ACM's SIGARCH. He began his engineering career at IBM as a designer of mainframe computers. He became Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford in 1975 where he set up the Stanford Architecture and Arithmetic group.
