Freelander Jatco Auto Gearbox fluid level check - 2.0 TD4 / 2.5 KV6 Automatic JF506E Transmission

How to check the level of your gearbox fluid on your Jatco JF506E Gearbox. This automatic gearbox is fitted to many vehicles, but I'm checking today on my 2.5l Freelander 1.

Take your car for a quick short drive, half a mile at most to warm the fluid up slightly. The gearbox shouldn't be too hot to touch. The fluid needs to be between 35 and 45 degrees. There are ways of checking this using the pins on the multiplug.

One of the pins is a temp sensor, but this is not a 100% foolproof way:
You are looking for resistance values in the region of: 2.0kΩ and 1.0kΩ roughly, with an ambient temp of 21 degrees. Pins 7 & 8 are the fluid temp sensor pins on the multiplug that you can find next to the gearbox. This is the same plug that has all the solenoid pins for diagnosing failing solenoids.

Other Vehicles this may apply to:
Rover 75 Auto.
MG ZT Auto.
Freelander TD4 Auto.

I am not a mechanic. I do not pretend to be one. The video is uploaded to guide you through, but please take your own precautions and if you're unsure, refer to RAVE as this will have all the correct info. Everything I've done here is based from RAVE.
