This was first feature film about the blonde Fiction House jungle heroine to receive wide commercial release. Three episodes of the Irish McCalla television series, "Sheena Queen of the Jungle" (1955-56), were hobbled together to make a shoddy feature film called "Queen of the Jungle", possibly for the European market, but nothing is known about where or when it was released. The 1984 "Sheena" starred Tanya Roberts as Sheena; Ted Wass as Vic Casey, a reporter; Donovan Scott as Fletch, his photographer/partner; Elizabeth of Toro as the Zambuli Shaman; France Zobda as Countess Zabda; and Trevor Thomas as Prince Otwani. It was filmed on location in Kenya and was directed by John Guillerman, who also directed "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" (1959), "Tarzan Goes to India (1962), "The Towering Inferno (1974), and "King Kong" (1976).

"Sheena" was univerally panned by critics but has developed a cult following, principally because of the the film's tanned, muscular and scantily-clad leading lady.
