Gaza: bodies buried in mass grave after transfer from Israeli forces to Palestinian authorities

Dozens of bodies from the ongoing war in Gaza were transferred from Israeli forces to Palestinian authorities and buried in a mass grave in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip. At the Kerem Shalom border, U.N. and Gaza medical workers received these bodies, estimated to be around 80, in a container filled with blue bodybags. The odors from some decomposed bodies were so strong that medical workers quickly left after opening a few bags. Health concerns were raised about potential illnesses spreading among local residents. The offensive by Israel, aimed at eliminating Hamas' capabilities following an attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7, has been one of the most devastating in recent history, with more than 20,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, reported killed. Israel continues efforts to free the remaining hostages taken by Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization by several countries including Israel, the United States, and the European Union.
