When it comes to photography, few companies are as revered as Kodak, but the once dominant film company failed to keep up in the digital era, eventually going bankrupt in 2012.
With the Kodak PIXPRO ORBIT360 4K, it would seem that Kodak is back--just kidding! This camera is from JK Imaging, a company that licensed the Kodak brand, to produce this 360-degree camera product. So, does the Kodak PIXPRO live up to the brand's product history?
Frankly, no, but we're not sure that matters, since Kodak never really made a name for itself in the world of digital photography (even though it was the first company to produce a digital camera).
Branding aside, the PIXPRO ORBIT360 still carries a few surprises. Firstly, in the build quality--although it's plastic, the camera is still dust and splash proof.
Unlike most dual camera, the lenses are not equal to each other; one has an extremely wide angle, the other covers 155-degrees of view. Together, these two lenses provide a 360-degree view of the world, and each lens can be used independently. The 155-degree lens produces a 16:9 image, while the wider lens, produces a circular, fisheye image.
The camera uses two 20 megapixel sensors, which together, produces a 3840 x 1920 image, which isn't true 4K when you have to spread it over a 360-degree sphere.
Image quality is not fantastic, is soft around the edges, and stitch lines can become prominent with uneven lighting, but these are problems that are inherent with most cameras of this nature. You can view your content on a mobile app, or desktop app, and you can upload content straight to Youtube or Facebook, although there isn't an ability to livestream video.
The Kodak PIXPRO ORBIT360 4K isn't a bad product, but the Kodak name, and a few included accessories, aren't enough to warrant such a high price.
