The Forest Is Our Life

This is a documentary by Rachel Clarke about the Khmu (also Khamu or Kammu), an indigenous people of Northern Laos and makers of the JungleVine® Nature Bag. For nearly 5,000 years, the Khmu have gathered food, fiber and medicine in the forest, living in isolated villages at a subsistence level.

As Laos rapidly progresses, aspects of traditional Khmu life must also change. Although many Khmu children join their Lao comrades in the mainstreams of Lao life, others seek to maintain traditional lifestyles living in the countryside while taking advantage of opportunities such as electricity, communications, transportation and modern medicine.

The nonprofit JungleVine Foundation's Nature Bag project links the world with the Khmu via http://www.NatureBag.ORG. The global distribution of Ms. Clarke's wonderful video is one of the means used to accomplish this linkage.
