The best part of this project is that Tasmota is a FREE, NO-CODE, and beginner-friendly IoT platform, meaning you can build powerful smart home devices without writing a single line of code.

I have covered the following topic in this ESP8266 Tasmota IoT project:
00:28 Quick demo on ESP8266 NodeMCU Tasmota Smart Plug.
02:15 Required Components for ESP8266 DIY smart plug.
02:33 Circuit diagram of ESP8266 WiFi relay module project.
03:27 Download and flash Tasmota on ESP8266 NodeMCU.
04:53 Configure Tasmota dashboard for NodeMCU ESP8266.
06:35 Tasmota Alexa integration to control relays.

Required Components for this IoT-based DIY smart relay:
ESP8266 NodeMCU WiFi module
2-channel relay module (active-LOW)
5-mm LED + 220Ω resistor for WiFi status
2 latched switches (ON/OFF toggle or rocker switch)
5A 3 pin socket
Jumper wires

******Important Points******
1. You need an Alexa device like Echo Dot for this project.
2. For no device found error, restart the Echo Dot and try again.
3. The NodeMCU, Echo Dot & smartphone must be connected with the same Wi-Fi.
4. The indicator LED will blink if the WiFi is not connected and both switches are off.
5. Please take proper safety precautions while working with High Voltage.
6. All the tools used are open source and FREE.

The ESP8266 NodeMCU is flashed with Tasmota, which handles WiFi, relay control, and device status automatically. GPIO pins are assigned using the Tasmota web interface, making the setup extremely simple.
After linking Tasmota with Amazon Alexa, you can control the smart plug using voice commands like:

“Alexa, turn ON smart plug”

The smart plug can also be controlled manually using a physical switch and locally through the Tasmota dashboard, even when the internet is unavailable.

This ESP8266 NodeMCU Tasmota Alexa DIY Smart Plug project proves that you can build a powerful and reliable home automation device using a free, no-code, and beginner-friendly platform. With voice control through Alexa, local control via Tasmota, and simple hardware wiring, this project is perfect for anyone starting with IoT and smart home automation.
