Direct Die Cooling VS Custom IHS on Intel 9900K Coffee Lake CPU
So this is the second part of my 9900K Coffee Lake delidding project. This time I compare direct die cooling solution and Custom IHS from Rockitcool against each other and those the stock results of preivous video.
The end result is that direct die cooling really makes this whole thing worth it. With delid + direct die I could shave around 10 degrees in core temperatures at same settings as in the delidding video + I could lower the vcore requirement of 5.3GHz Cinebench R15 from 1.375 to 1.335, which is about 45mV. That kind of drop can sometimes mean same thing as +100MHz reachable core frequency.
So if you want the best speeds on air or water cooling and you are going to run a very strong custom water cooling loop, then I can happily recommend the delidding kit by Rockitcool, both the Quicksilver as well as the direct die frame. The Custom IHS from Rockitcool ended up placing between the two results, so it is a bit better than stock IHS with liquid metal, but loses to direct die in temperature results.
