These days, 'survival horror' is a genre enjoyed by tens of millions of gamers around the world. Back in 1996, though, the roots of evil were just beginning to take hold in the foundation of the video game industry. In this first chapter of 'The History of Resident Evil,' we're going all the way back to 1989's 'Sweet Home' to discover the origins of survival horror. As this series unfolds, we'll follow the trail of blood all the way to 2006's Resident Evil 4, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've got an entire mansion to explore.
