Ignacio Pineiro - A La Loma De Belen -1929 - Foto-Video.mp4

Ignacio Pineiro, was born in Havana on May 21, 1888. His childhood was spent in the popular neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo where he first became interested in music whilst singing in choirs.
In his youth, before taking up music as a way of life he held various jobs - a bricklayer, a cigar seller. Already immersed in the musical world of Havana in those years, he was part of several popular groups like Los Roncos y Timbre de Oro. In 1926 he joined Sexteto Occidente de Maria Teresa Vera West as bassist and went with them to New York.
When he returned to Cuba in 1927 he founded Sexteto Nacional, so-called because, unlike Sexteto Habanero, its main competitior, which had been founded two years earlier, Sexteto Nacional comprised musicians from all over Cuba.
Soon the group became reknowned for its quality and its innovative repertoire based on the compositions of Pineiro.
In 1928, a year after being founded, the group became a septet with the addition of the trumpet and in mid-1929, travelled to Seville for the Latin American Exhibition and stayed in Spain for a period of three months recording and performing.
Pineiro left the septet in 1935 but then resumed his leadership in 1954and continued until his death in Havana on March 12, 1969
