Before the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941, the colonial govnerment built a series of air raid protection (ARP) tunnels to shelter civilians from Japanese air strikes. After World War 2, the tunnels were
decommissioned and sealed off. There are currently 29 tunnels still in existence with a total combined length of 19km. Many are hidden in plain sight, surrounded by high rises and shopping malls. In the first of this series, we enter one tunnel complex located in an affluent district of Hong Kong Island.
