Japanese Ryokan Tour | Staying in a Traditional Japanese Hotel with Onsen

Come join us for a Japanese Ryokan Tour where we showcase what it is like to stay at a traditional Japanese hotel with onsen. Ready to experience a Japanese ryokan?! In this video, we give you a full tour of our stay at Ryokan Seiryu, a traditional Japanese inn in the heart of Takayama. We spent a night here and got to experience the public baths (onsen), eat a traditional meal, wear yukatas, and enjoy the place. Hopefully, this video gives you an idea of what to expect if you decide to stay at a ryokan in Japan!

We start our Ryoka tour outside where we show you the outside of the building. You enter the Ryokan by first taking off your shoes and putting our Japanese slippers. Inside there is a reception desk, breakfast dining hall, coffee/tea station, couches and onsen Japanese saunas all on the first floor. To reach our Ryokan room we take the elevator to our floor. The room itself is simple with a traditional Japanese dining table featuring ground chairs and tatami mats for sleeping. There are plenty of sliding doors and the table is replaced at night for sleeping mattresses. Windows reveal mountain views outside with lots of lush green forest.

Going to the Japanese public baths involves getting naked, taking a shower and enjoying the public baths. Men and women are separated in the onsen. Aside from the baths, you can enjoy a nice shower with plenty of different soaps, shampoos and scrubbing devices.

Japanese Ryokan Tour | Staying in a Traditional Japanese Hotel + Onsen

Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gō and Takao.

During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan.

Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan.
