2 quick and easy ways to prevent vw/audi fender rust.

It's no secret that many Volkswagens, while good cars, can suffer from fender rust. It's usually at in the exact center of the wheel arch and and the lower rear portion of the fender near the drivers door. This is/can be caused by the sound deadening foam stuck on the inside of the fender at the factory. 15 years ago when your car was new it helped your $12,000 base rabbit feel like an $22,000 base model pseudo luxury car.

1st Removing this greatly reduces the risk that moisture, rocks, mold, salt and sediment will stay there very long and ensure that the fender does not rust. The 2nd thing to be aware of is how much sediment collects under the lower rear section of the front fender. I'd suggest taking it out once a year and either blowing it out with an air hose and/or cleaning it with rags and possibly even adding some undercoating for maximum protection.
