भारतीय मानक ब्यूरो, BIS national body है जो भारत में उत्पादों की गुणवत्ता, सुरक्षा और विश्वसनीयता बनाए रखता है। BIS का उद्देश्य preliminary and surveillance stage में उत्पादों के नमूनों की जांच करना है। BIS certificate गुणवत्ता का आश्वासन देता है, सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य की सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है, उपभोक्ताओं को जोखिम भरे उत्पादों से बचाता है और उपभोक्ता विश्वास बनाता है। भारत में बीआईएस की कुल आठ केंद्रीय, चार क्षेत्रीय और तीन शाखा प्रयोगशालाएं हैं।

BIS Registration scheme दुनिया की सबसे बड़ा scheme है जो कवर करती है जो over 26500 licenses covering more than 900 products. यह manufacturer को अपने products पर लोकप्रिय ISI mark का उपयोग करने की अनुमति देता है जो कहता है कि उत्पाद शुद्ध और स्वस्थ है। बीआईएस पंजीकरण उत्पाद योजना Foreign Manufactures Certification Scheme भी संचालित करती है जिसके तहत विदेशी निर्माता को बीआईएस मानक चिह्न का उपयोग करने का लाइसेंस दिया जा सकता है।

अब तक 350 BIS Registration have been granted for over 50 Indian standards in 40 different countries.

• ID proof of signatory
• Flow chart of the manufacturing process
• List of manufacturing machines – name, their purpose, capacity etc.

• Organization chart of the factory
• Location map
• Details of the Quality control team and their qualification certificates
• Test report copies for each raw material and part
• In case of foreign manufacturers, details of Indian Representative

Registration Procedure for BIS Registration
Licensing Process
• There will be an application submission
• Then the BIS Officer will go for a preliminary Inspection
• After the Inspection, the samples will be tested
After completing all the evaluation, the final result will be derived
Surveillance Process
• The Inspecting authority will visit the factory and testify it
• After the testing, the samples were taken
• The samples will be sent to the Independent labs
• The test report will brief the complaint or give feedback on the investigation
• The performance review report will be ready
• Once the report is reviewed license is granted

Validity for BIS Registration
The BIS Registration will be valid for two years and can be renewed if the product and the standard are not changed. License renewal is done for the minimum period of one year and maximum up to five years. Though, the renewal depends on the annual license fee and advance minimum marking fee. In case the application for renewal is made after the validity of the license, the applicant has to pay late fee of rupees five thousand.
