HOW TO SHARPEN A CHAINSAW WITH AND WITHOUT A FILE GUIDE, ADJUST DEPTH ADJUSTERS
To be able to work well and safely with your chainsaw, the chain needs to be sharpened regularly or replaced. Chains become dull through sand, metal and gravel.
At a certain poimt in time sawing becomes more difficult, the saw does not draw itself into the wood, the saw starts to saw at an angle and/or the sawdust becomes powdery. You can solve this bij sharpening the teeth with a round file.
Secure the saw (blade) (of Secure the chain). Loosen the chainlock and tighten the chain as to take up the slack. Even now there is too much slack.. tighten some more.
Remove all superfluous grease. Of : Clean grease and oil off the chain as well as you can
Tighten the chainlock and check the slack again; if necessary, repeat the tightening procedure.
Find the tooth with the most damage , this tooth is the reference to the other teeth and the amount of strokes you need to file.
Position the file at an angle of 30 degrees and file horizontally versus (relative) to the blade.
The pressure on the file is towards the rear (of the file).
Count how many stokes you need to repair the tooth; in our case: six strokes.
Knock out the filings frequently (of Frequently knock the filings out of the file.)
In able to keep all teeth the same length: file every tooth six strokes.
When you have finished filing all left oriented teeth, start with the right oriented teeth. Remember to change your file hand (when changing sides). Of Remember to file with your other hand.
An easier, more practical way (manner) of filing can be achieved (by) using the optional Oregon fileguide. The guide makes it impossible to file too deep and the optimal file angle is legible
After having sharpened the chain a certain amount of times, you will need to re-set (readjust) the depth adjusters . The depth adjusters determine the amount of wood the teeth remove.
In order to do this yourself, order, for a few euro's , the, optional depthgauge at Tuintools.
File down everything sticking out above the depthgauge; never file off too much, if too mcuh is filed off the chainsaw becomes "agressive". The possibility of "chopping" and jamming increases dramatically (enormously, substantially).
