EY celebrates finalists and winners of 2023 Open Science Data Challenge

With over 13,000 registrants, the EY 2023 Open Science Data Challenge inspired participants to make the world a better place by addressing the severe problem of food security.

The annual EY Open Science Data Challenge produces new intellectual property that drives more intelligent, data-informed decisions to mitigate global sustainability issues. The winning models are shared with environmentalists, governments and scientists around the world.

This year, the challenge topic focused on solving world hunger by analyzing rice harvests. Using satellite data, artificial intelligence and other technologies, participants demonstrated their love of learning and creativity by developing models to identify areas in Vietnam where rice is cultivated, then forecasting crop yields. Throughout the challenge, they built skills in understanding and interpreting radar and optical satellite data, coding in Python using Jupytor notebooks and testing machine learning techniques.

Through their sense of responsibility and desire to improve the world for all, these participants are using their skills and talents to build a better world.
