How to Properly Clean Saw Blades and Router Bits for Peak Performance

Are your blades and bits running at their best? They may not need sharpened yet, they might just need a good cleaning. Learn how to properly clean the pitch and resin that gets caked and burnt on to your blades. Dirty blades produce more tear out, cut slower and also heat up more which shortens their life. The cleaning process is simple and quick and saves you money in the long run.

I used to think that my blades were getting dull when in fact they just needed a cleaning to get them back to cutting at their best. The process I use is simple and inexpensive, using a plastic pan, rubber gloves, a tooth brush and some blade cleaner. The blade cleaner I use is available from Lee Valley but there are many different products available. Properly drying the blades and bits after cleaning is important to avoid rust and that process is also shown in the video.
