Can You RE-PIERCE an Old Piercing?

A topic I've wanted to talk about for a while is wehther or not you can (or should) re-pierce an old piercing. For one reason or another, you had to take jewelry out of a piercing...and it closed up. But now you want that piercing again. So, can you re-pierce it? Although the short answer is usually "yes," there are some variables that you have to take into consideration before doing so.
