'Man on the Wire', written by Michael Fix and Mark Cryle, is a song based on the story of Con Colleano - 'The Wizard of the Wire' - an Australian circus performer who achieved international fame throughout the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Because of his dark complexion, he performed high wire tricks in the persona of a Spanish toreador. He was born Cornelius Sullivan in Lismore in 1899, the son of an indigenous Kamilaroi woman.
