The #Prespes are a famous mountain lake area and wetland of international interest, on the northwestern border of Greece with Albania and North Macedonia. They are located at an altitude of approximately 850 meters, while they have been designated as a National Forest and are included in the #Ecological Network "Natura 2000" and the #Ramsar Convention. The fact that Prespes communicates underground with Lake #Ohrid in #North Macedonia is impressive.

The characteristic island of Agios Achillios in Prespa lies 243 km from #Thessaloniki, 53 km from Florina and 60 km from Kastoria.

In ancient times the 2 lakes bore the names "Mikra" and "Megali Vrygiis". The region witnessed early #Bulgarian and #Slavic presences and raids. At the end of the 9th century, Prespa was occupied by the Bulgarians of #Tsar #Simeon, for whom Agios Achillios still has a special monumental #significance.

Today, the #Municipality of Prespa consists of 13 villages, such as Agios #Germanos and #Lefkonas among others, which are worth discovering.
