1. The Punjab region was home to the Indus Valley Civilization until 1900 BCE. The Punjab was conquered by Alexander the Great in 330 BCE and was captured by Chandragupta Maurya.

2. The Punjab province of British India was divided along with Bengal during partition of India in 1947. Pakistan was created out of Punjab and Bengal. West Punjab became Pakistan owing to it being a Muslim majority region leading to the largest human migration in history and widespread communal violence.

3. The Grand Trunk Road runs between the holy city of Amritsar in India and the Pakistani city of Lahore. The road runs through the international border crossing between India and Pakistan at the Pakistani village of Wagah. Attari is the last Indian village located at the border. The Wagah border is located just 32km from Amritsar and 24km from Lahore on the Pakistani side. It is perhaps one of the most famous border crossings in the world.

4. Sikhism, from Sikh, meaning a "disciple", "seeker," or "learner"), is a monotheistic Indian religion that originated in the Punjab region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent around the end of the 15th century

5. As per the world book of records, the Golden Temple in Amritsar is the world’s most visited place. The Golden Temple has been a monument of worldwide fame on account of organizing the largest langar sewa in the world, where more than 35000 people are fed on a daily basis.

6. Chandigarh is a city and a union territory in India that serves as the capital of the two neighbouring states of Haryana and Punjab. The city is unique as it is not a part of either of the two states but is governed directly by the Union Government, which administers all such territories in the country. The city is considered the best-planned city in the country. It is called ‘The City Beautiful’ and you will surely agree with it once you visit the beautiful city where modernization has not destroyed the natural treasures of the land.

7. Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language with more than 100 million native speakers in the Indian subcontinent and spread with the Punjabi diaspora worldwide. It is the native language of the Punjabi people, an ethnic group of the cultural region of Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent, which extends from northwest India through eastern Pakistan.
