When will Bulgaria stop the flow of Russian oil? | DW News

In 2022, the EU agreed to ban most imports of Russian oil to punish the Kremlin for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but Bulgaria was granted a temporary opt-out to shore up its energy security. A recent investigation by Global Witness and other nonprofit groups suggests that derogation has allowed Russia to rake in hundreds of millions of euros in tax revenues from oil flowing through Bulgaria. Our reporter Rosie Birchard sat down with Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and asked him when this loophole would be closed.
