10,000 Chestnut Challenge: A Restoration Forest

After 25 years of work, researchers at SUNY-ESF have developed a blight-resistant American chestnut tree. Since our original Ten Thousand Chestnut Challenge in 2014, ESF researchers have been working diligently to produce the first 10,000 blight-resistant trees, targeted for future distribution to the public.

The next step: establish a Restoration Forest! The restoration forest will provide a location for long-term research studies, public education and outreach. We will develop and test methods for producing the most blight-resistant chestnut trees, with a focus on providing the most benefits to the environment.

You can help! Give to the crowd-funding campaign between March 7 to March 19, 2017 or spread the word about the crowdfunding campaign and the SUNY-ESF American Chestnut Research & Restoration Project.
