The whole of “Beloved” reveals a hidden hope in two ways: the legacy of Talos and the broken marriage of Fury and Priscilla.

In this episode we discover that Rhodey has all the characteristics of a Skrull in disguise; high up in the US government Rhodey’s influence turns out to be deadly.

He commands Priscilla to kill Nick Fury, her husband. As they face off we find a scene of two lovers at an impasse. Strangely their love prevails and they choose to let the other live. Fury lives on but he knows he must part ways from Priscilla for any chance of stopping the complete annihilation of the human race.

Their parting offers hope because their sacrifice shows a faith in their love that even at the pain of separation they will fight on. They know they are Beloved by the other for the sake of the other; hence true love.

Talos bows out with honor. He shares his spirit and heart to G’iah when she challenges him. He declares his belief that humanity will one day see the Skrulls. This HOPE baffles G’iah and she refuses his optimistic “delusional plan.”

Talos fights for mankind and for Skrulls, and it costs him his life.

We know many MCU fans cannot get into this show. We’re simply not used to losing. The unique pacing pulls back the veil on who Fury is: a super flawed human who must face the consequences for the mistakes of his response to the blip.
