Darcy O'Brien Rivas Memorial

Darcy W. O'Brien Rivas, 62, passed away courageously on Oct. 7, 2020 in Bakersfield, CA, due to heart issues. She was the loving wife of Raul A. Rivas for 40 years. Darcy was born in Pontiac, MI on
October 27, 1957. She was the beloved daughter of the late Marie Amthor O'Brien June and late
Carl W. O'Brien. Darcy's dear step-father was George B. June.

Darcy attended Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School and Oakland University where she excelled at viola and vocal performance. She performed in many concerts, musicals and choirs, often as the leading performer. Darcy was an extremely talented singer & dancer and was musically influenced by Motown Music, Folk and Classic Rock. She played guitar, wrote original songs and was a member of blues/rock bands throughout the years. Her high-spirited personality was contagious and she made many friends. Darcy moved from Michigan to Los Angeles California in 1979 to pursue a music career as a singer/vocalist. Her vocal style was compared to that of the late Janis Joplin. She loved the ocean and strolling the boardwalk to meet with family and friends, often singing and playing guitar at the beach.
Early in her career Darcy was a Singer/Songwriter and also worked as a Bookeeper, Office Manager and Salesperson. Darcy loved children and studied child development and worked in childcare for over fifteen years. Darcy’s passion for education and teaching continued at Valley College where she frequently took music and liberal arts classes, always furthering her education.

Darcy attended Church of the Way in Van Nuys California as well as Krishna Temple Ashram in Culver City for over 30 years. Darcy was very spirited and soulful and found great joy in her spiritual faiths. She loved to spend time with her husband playing music, singing and teaching music to her children and grandchildren. Darcy recently retired in Bakersfield, California. She will be remembered for her talent, intelligence, beauty, grit, sense of humor, kindness and deep faith in God.

Darcy is survived by her husband and three children, Juliett R. Olivarez  (Chris) with their son Tibet and daughter Amelie, Jasmin M. Watson (Devon) and their two sons  LA and Kash, and her son Bryan A. Rivas. She will be dearly missed by her siblings Shawn C. O'Brien (Ladawn), Tracy A. Booth (Charles), the late Brett M. O'Brien (Mona), Rory C. O'Brien, Keely M. Tyson (Paul), Senator D. O'Brien (Nicole), nieces, nephews and cousins. Darcy was extremely close to her dearly departed Grandmothers Margaret Amthor and Natha O'Brien, and her adoring Aunt Julia O'Brien. 

An Online Memorial Service will be held on Darcy's birthday, Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 4pm Pacific time. All family and friends are invited and encouraged to share a memory or prayer for Darcy.
