The Haka in Iraq - New Zealand Army

Haka is a traditional dance form of the Māori of New Zealand, which has become familiar worldwide through their rugby team display. War haka (peruperu) were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition.

Lieutenant Colonel Jason Hutchings, Senior National Officer for the New Zealand Army, explained the significance of performing the haka: "What we're showing is that we're warriors and that the next task group has to meet our courage and meet our mana [power].
