When I did the Ls/Vortec swap in my Jeep TJ I went with a low profile oil pan for clearance. That being said the oil pan is made out of thin aluminum which can be easily punctured on the trail. I didn't want a oil pan armour that would be solid as it would just collect dirt and rocks. I only wanted some bars to keep something big from doing damage. If I needed to modify it in the future I could put some screen mesh across it.
