Ultrasound-Guided Popliteal Vein Access in Prone Patients
Central lines are usually placed in the internal jugular, subclavian, or femoral veins but these sites are difficult to access in patients ventilated in the prone position. An alternative is to obtain intravenous (IV) access through the popliteal vein. This procedure video demonstrates a simple ultrasound-guided technique for obtaining large-bore IV access through the popliteal vein.
