What Type of Ship Is a Cog?
The Hanseatic cog was a large medieval trading ship employed primarily by the German merchants of the Hanseatic league. It was not a particualrly seaworthy ship and was not really oceangoing, but it could carry a large quantity of goods and wad suited for coastal trade in the Baltic sea and North sea. It was the dominant merchant vessel for much of the middel ages in Northern Europe. It travel from England in the West to Russia in the East and Norway in the North.
