The Psychology Behind Disaster Movies

This is something that I have thought a lot about since the idea of making a movie that is not a documentary surrounding a disaster, is pretty contradictory. Humans are truly unique beings, since we enjoy watching and even creating media that depicts things like the destruction of our entire planet. Though in 99% of disaster media, there is a happy ending so perhaps the simple prevail of humanity no matter the odds, is enough.
