Biography
Antal Neogrady (1861-1942), Hungarian School. Neogrady is best known for his landscape and figural paintings. Born in Hungary (Galsa) in 1861, he studied in Budapest at the School of Model Drawing under Janos Greguss, and later in the Munich Academy. He took part in exhibitions from 1888. Between 1893-1931 he taught painting at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts. In 1904 he exhibited in Budapest, and in 1908 in Arad. Several watercolors of Neogrady can be found at the Hungarian National Gallery and his self-portrait is exhibited in the Historical Picture-Gallery. A post-Impressionist artist of the Hungarian school, Neogràdy was both a painter and an illustrator. He worked primarily in oil, watercolor and gouache. Neogràdy excelled at painting figures, children, animals and the lyrically refined landscapes for which he is best known. He was an excellent colorist, using nature as his incentive, richly interweaving it with light and color to capture the quiet deep rhythm of the atmosphere. In his work, Neogràdy thoroughly explored the different aspects of landscapes and the atmospheric conditions of the seasons.
