Phoenix Munition Works AKA Women Workers Making Shells (1914-1918)
World War One. Manufacture of shells at Phoenix Munition Works in Yorkshire - some excellent footage.
Woman at machine with wheel grinding out cylinder. Woman at machine boring hole. Woman operating machine. Women dropping cylinders in slots along counter and retrieve them from lower slots. Women working at counter, making shells. Panning shot cylinders stacked on end, man and women working. Shots of moving crates of shells on pallets.
Excellent CU of woman inspecting shells. Good CU (back view) woman operating machine - looks like physically hard work. Another woman at same sort of machine. MS of several women working at machines, showing belts stretched vertically, men work in background.
Woman removes rings from oven using pole and man fits it onto shell. Women oils big machine. More great shots of big black factory machinery. CU as woman puts shell on rolling cylinders and examines it. Room of men working on shells at tables, pan on masses of shells. Several shots machines. CU report on wall - appears to give numbers of shells made. More shots repeating action earlier in item.
